We offer lessons and instruction to suit all skill levels.  If you don't find what you're looking for on this page, please give us a call, we'd be happy to customize a lesson or trip to meet your needs.

Lessons In The Pool...  If you'd like to practice your wet exits, rescues and rolls in the pool, we take over Crystal Pool every Sunday night.  You can participate in a pool lesson or just practice your skills on your own... either way, we'll be there to help you when you need it.  For further information on our pool time and lessons, please click here.

Introduction to Kayaking (L1) - 3 hrs

If you've always wanted to try kayaking but were unsure how to get started, this class is for you!  Our experienced instructors will show you all the basics you need to know to maneuver your kayak on calm water.

Within 3 hours, we will cover getting into and out of your kayak, balancing, safety and basic paddle strokes - this lesson is perfect for someone interested in trying kayaking for the first time.

The Essentials (L2) - 3 hrs

In this 3 hour calm water lesson we will review balance and basic kayaking strokes, then move on to braces, wet exits, and kayak re-entry... essential skills if you're planning to start kayaking on a more regular basis.

As you will be flipping upside down in your kayak, you should be comfortable with swimming in a lake or the ocean (with a PFD of course) and bring warm clothes to change into after the lesson.

Recoveries (L3) - 3 hrs

Solid kayak bracing skills will help you remain upright in rough conditions, but if someone does flip over, this course will introduce you to a variety of self and assisted rescues and towing techniques.

Kayak Navigation (L4) - 8 hrs over 2 days

2 hours of study on land on Friday evening, followed by 6 hours on the water on Sunday will provide you with the basic skills necessary to safely find your way on the ocean.

This course will explain how to relate and apply tide charts, current tables and maps to the real world using a variety of navigation tools and techniques.  Gain the confidence to explore our beautiful waters without getting lost!

Ocean Currents : Level I (L5) - full day

An introduction to coastal currents.  All participants must come prepared for immersion with adequate paddling gear.  We will work on maneuvering and bracing skills, as well as an explanation of the mechanics of currents.

Ocean Currents : Level II (L6) - full day

Once you're comfortable with maneuvering in moderate currents, this next step will introduce you to more advanced moves for use in stronger (3 knot+) currents.   This course will present the opportunity to test not only your current management skills but also to practice rescues in dynamic water.   It is essential that all participants are proficient at self and assisted rescues and have good bracing skills.  All participants must come prepared for immersion with adequate paddling gear.

Surf Essentials : Part I & II (S1&2)

Part I of our Westcoast surf course is at Crystal Pool.  We will introduce you to the skills you'll need to maneuver a whitewater kayak on flat water and in the surf, including basic strokes, bracing and wet exits, along with surf zone etiquette and safety.

Part II will run on the weekend directly following Part I, and will be a full day at Jordan River.  We will start out in the river to get a feel for the moving water, then move out into the surf for the remainder of the day.  Be prepared to get very wet and have a LOT of fun!
